Tips for Rookie Buyers of Yankees Memorabilia
Some people collect sports memorabilia for the pleasure of ownership, others for the thrill of the chase. Increasingly, however, the hobby has turned into A money-earner, especially with the explosion of the online universe.
However this brave new world is not for the faint of heart. Here are some tips to navigate the unfamiliar waters of Yankee memorabilia. Your Authentic Jersey, especially if autographed, or a Signed Baseball bat can easily be sold at a profit. Here is your guide.
Tip No. 1: Do your research.
Enthusiasm won't carry you far. If owning a 'piece' of your favorite team is enough, then you will be satisfied easily. That's an easy pleasure, but if you're harboring dreams of profit, you'll have to dig deeper. After all, there are plenty of fake memorabilia out there to be bought cheaply. Buying 'right' means research.
There are lots of teams and players--but not many winners or stars. Go through the rosters of the winning teams and focus on players in key games or series. You are looking for specific skills and plays, shrewd managers, great strategy, and the well-publicized dream match. Remember, all winners are not equal--you want the stand-out.
Tip No. 2: Search Online
First find out what potential buyers are looking for. Then cruise around the Web checking availability and prices. Individual items, of course, will stand out. But collections will give you a chance to browse and buy in bunches, without your revealing too much eagerness for a particular item. Also, if you get your information via the Web, you will be better informed when you cruise around flea markets and yard or garage sales.
Another advantage of online sales is that a potential buyer can see seller feedback. This feature is especially helpful for first-time buyers, as the reputation of the seller is on display to the world.
Tip No. 3: Look for Authenticity
Know the difference between a 'signed' and 'collectible' item. A 'Hand-signed' New York Yankees authentic jacket should come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) issued by a reliable company. This is equally true of all signed items--baseball bats, for instance. Always check the source and examine the COA before buying. Collectibles, on the other hand, are nice items to own, but they are sold without COA and signatures.
