Five Card Stud Tips

Five Card Stud in recent years has not managed to gain the popularity that several games such as Texas Hold'em have. There could be A few reasons for this. Five Card Stud is considerably different in that the players only get five cards instead of the seven that others poker games allow. It can be found to be much harder to make a great hand out of only five cards but this also makes the game much more challenging than the more popular poker games today.    

Since this can often be a much more challenging game than the other varieties of poker, you must be sure that before entering a game of Five Card Stud, you are familiar with all of the rules. These tips can also be of great benefit to you when playing Five Card Stud.

Of course, all of the action on the table will be done in a clockwise direction and every player puts up an ante. When your cards are dealt, one will be dealt face down and one face up. When deciding to play your hand, you should usually only try to play with a good pair or at least one very high card. Take note, straights and flushes often are a Very Rare hand in the game of Five Card Stud. Therefore, be conservative when it comes to playing your hands. You should only play a straight or flush draw if you have at least three cards to the straight or flush. Normally, a good rule of thumb is to fold if you do not have a pair contained in the first three cards dealt.

Generally, as in most games of poker as well as Five Card Stud, you should usually bet if you have a very strong hand. Try as hard as possible, within reason, not to give other players free cards by not betting when you have a strong hand. Just remember, if you do not feel that your hand can beat the board or do not have a strong straight or flush draw, fold it. It's best to fold a risky hand than lose all of your chips to a bluffing player. Fortunately, in the game of Five Card Stud, there is little to the imagination. Since there is only one down card for each player, it makes it extremely simple for you to decide whether your hand can beat the rest of the player's hands or not.

In summary, what you really need to know to win at the game of Five Card Stud is that you must play smart. Throw away cards that do not consist of a pair, a straight or a flush draw by the third card dealt. Play your cards consistently and strategically. DO NOT give away free cards to other players, whenever possible. Lastly, play intelligently. The other players are, so why shouldn't you? You should almost always know where your hand stands compared with others on the table due to the fact that Five Card Stud allows you to only have to intelligently guess at only one of the other players' cards. These tips, when used correctly should ensure a win at the game of Five Card Stud.

I Must Get The Newspaper

Every day when I wake up one of the first items that creeps into my head is getting the newspaper. I have got to get the paper. I have operated this way for over 40 years. The paper gets me in the know. More so than the internet I guess it might be because I can touch it or feel it. Or once I have it I do not have to wait for any uploading or downloading or sideloading (hey A new word) of information.

I confess - I have to see the sports pages. It's out in the open. I admit it. There is something missing for me if I do not get to see the sports pages. Who hit home runs? Who got the most hits the previous day? How did Pujols or Manny do? What pitchers won? Who drove in the runs? How did the Yankee players do? Yeah I like that one the most. RBIs.If we are out of baseball season, it's off to the transaction part of the paper. Who signed and who got released? ( I almost always feel bad when I see a name of a player I liked that got dropped by their team). Any trades I may have missed? People's lives on the move. While this part of the paper announces transactions, it's really about how lives change by the places these players move away from. And where they move on to. Sometimes that is all it takes like a new city for some players to excel like a Paul O'Neill or Roger Maris to name two great Yankee acquisitions.

During the season I have to see my boys, and how are they doing? Love those Yankee Stats - I always check them out. Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Gary Sheffield and Giambi are the guys whose statistics I scrutinize now. In the old days it was mickey mantle, Yogi Berra, Don Mattingly, Reggie Jackson, Roger Maris, and Thurman Munson. I know I am omitting a few. Please forgive me.

When I am done with the statistics I peruse the pages for some good story. I do not have any game plan for this pursuit. I usually get caught by some headline and go from there. Lately I noticed that when I see an article by a writer I do not care for I spit at the paper. No I do not I am only kidding.

I read the paper as if I am about to get a test. I read by myself without any interruptions, sitting in my car or at my kitchen table. With a cup of coffee or tea by my side I engage the paper. I think about who I might run into that might ask me a question about the Yankees that I should know. I better know. I remember when I traveled in Europe in the early 70's. I had to get to the International Herald for their one or two page sports section. Reggie Jackson was having an awesome first half of the season. It seemed like every day he was hitting another homer for the Athletics. I could not wait to see in the paper if he hit another one.The New York Times, The Newark Star Ledger, The Bergen Record, USA Today and in the past The Newark News has been my companions in the morning. I would not have it any other way.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your paper as I get out of mine. I even read the front page and do the crossword puzzle. Sometimes.

The Relationship Between Sports Organizations and Community Service

The relationship between sports organizations and community service exists on at least two different levels: team activities and individual activities. The players may be asked to take part in various activities as A club; such activities would typically be accompanied by extensive publicity with cameras rolling. In addition, players may be asked to individually participate in activities to benefit the community as a whole. In each of these situations, the players may be pressured to be part of the community service, or they may choose to truly volunteer, either as a group or as individuals. In this instance, there may be less publicity.

Team Participation

Team participation in a particular community service project usually involves lots of publicity and may even be undertaken with the intent of convincing other members of the community to participate in the project. The team may appear at a rally to raise funds for a community center, or may take part in a drive to collect funds for Christmas gifts. Usually, the community service activity is a project that will benefit either the entire community or some segment of the community. The star power of the team is utilized to persuade others to join in physically or financially. During a fund raising drive for a community playground, for example, the players of a team may man the telephones to collect pledges, or sign autographs for fans in return for a donation. Although it is a team sanctioned event, the entire team may not always appear at every event.

Individual participation

Another type of relationship between sports organizations and community services is less formal. A team member may choose to participate individually in a particular community service project, simply because he or she believes in the project. This participation may be a matter of spending a few hours each week as a basketball coach at the local community center or Boys and Girls Club. Financial Assistance

There is little doubt that sports figures are paid some of the highest salaries in the world today. It is for that reason that many in society assume that because players earn more money, they should also be more willing to contribute money toward the general welfare. The difficulty with this way of thinking is that each supplicant looking for help for a community or personal project believes that their pet project is of highest importance. Rarely is there any recognition that the player may have their own schedule of priorities that may not include financial assistance to individuals or community service projects. For sports stars and movie stars alike, there is some perception that since the public is responsible for the stardom, the public has the right to demand financial assistance from the sports star.

Training and educational volunteer

Often a player may feel they get more personal satisfaction from volunteering their own time for a community service activity. They may be fully capable of hiring someone to do the physical part project for them, but choose instead to actively, physically and emotionally participate in the planning or implementation of the project. In this instance, the only reason publicity is sought is for the good it will do the project itself. A surprising number of sports personalities choose to volunteer their time and energy in this way for the good of the community.

Among those sports organizations that value the importance of publicity for the team, there can be a great deal of pressure upon team members to take part in publicity type community service projects. This can be to publicize the good citizen aspects of the team, or can even be a pet project of the team administration, owner or manager. Although the organizers of the community service project are usually happy to get any possible publicity for their project, in fact, the sports organization may be just as interested in fostering good publicity for the team because of the community service activities. The more fans that are happy with the team means more attendance at games which in turn can mean more revenue for the team.
